MDFD5 – Starting off with the self-construction workshop
On September 15th our MDFD5 students attended their first in-person module in Milan, which was held at the Off Campus Cascina Nosedo of Politecnico di Milano.
On their first week of classes, they had the chance to experiment with the rammed earth technique and Quincha, two traditional crafts that involve the usage of natural materials such as wood, cane, mud and clay to build structures.
Guided by prof. Alessio Battistella and arch. Valerio Marazzi, they built an earthquake-proof framework with their hands form scratch and learnt how to enhance natural resources to handle emrgency settings in a sustainable way.
